Assaults reported on campus: caution urged
7:20 a.m.—Public Safety officials have been informed that two assaults have occurred on the WMU campus within the past hour. One was by Sangren Hall. The second was at the West Michigan Ave. pedestrian tunnel. Suspect is described as a black male, 5-foot, 8-inches, 160 pounds with a tattoo on his neck. Extreme caution is urged. Do not walk alone. 8:45 a.m.—Additional details: The first assault was at approximately 6:50 a.m. near the West Michigan Ave. pedestrian tunnel. The second occurred about 20 minutes later near Sangren Hall. The suspect was last seen headed west from Sangren and may have tried to gain access to a Western View apartment.
The suspect is described as a black male, 5-foot, 8 inches to 6-feet tall, 160 pounds with a currency tattoo on his neck. He is wearing a white T-shirt and dark jacket.
The victims were both males. During one assault, a bright blue, two-toned backpack was stolen.
9:25 a.m.—A suspect in the two assaults reported this morning is now in custody. Additional information will be posted as it becomes available.
