What if I receive both the WMU faculty/staff dependent tuition remission and have a Michigan Education Trust contract? How will this impact my Western Michigan University student account?

If you have the Western Michigan University faculty/staff dependent tuition remission, which is currently 75 percent of the tuition and required fees, this will show on your tuition invoice and be applied to your Western Michigan University student account approximately 10 days before the semester starts. Western Michigan University receives a file from Michigan Education Trust showing how many credit hours you have available each semester. Western Michigan University will apply a Michigan Education Trust credit to your account for 100 percent of the tuition and required fees for the hours you have available. This credit will also show on your tuition invoice. When both of these awards apply to your WMU account, any excess credit balance will be refunded to you. If you do not want to use 100 percent of the Michigan Education Trust credit hours available, you will need to contact Accounts Receivable at (269) 387-4244 and speak with a representative.

What if my dependent receives both the Western Michigan University faculty/staff dependent tuition remission and has the Kalamazoo Promise? How will this impact my student's WMU Account?

Both of these awards pay a certain percentage of the tuition and required fees. The Financial Aid office estimates the awards to pay up to 100% of the tuition and required fees. You will see these estimates on the tuition invoice that is issued. As the student makes changes to their schedule, this changes the amount each award should pay. While these awards may not appear for the correct amount on the tuition invoice, the awards are reviewed and adjusted after the drop/add period ends each semester. The drop/add period ends after the 6th business day of each semester/session. The student account will be reviewed by Financial Aid to determine the appropriate amount of each financial aid award.  The necessary adjustments will be made to the account at that time.

If you have any question on these accounts, please call Bronco Express at (269) 387-6000.
