Bachelor of Business Administration, Sales and Business Marketing ‘09
I am the founder and president of Joshua Gold, which is a custom clothing company focused on exceptional service. We see our clients at their homes or offices and manage all of their clothing needs. I’m actively involved in several volunteer projects in Detroit. Everything from planting trees, to “suiting up” (literally) soon to be Detroit high
school graduates.
I visited Western’s campus in the fall of my senior year of high school, and knew immediately that I wanted to come back the following year as a student. I applied to only one school, because I knew it was the perfect place for me. The business program seemed like a perfect fit.
I attribute my professional success to my classes and professors at WMU. The courses prepared me for post graduate life by providing me with professional training and networking opportunities. The relevance of course work greatly impacted my ability from day one.
While at Western, I was involved in several groups that meant the world to me. The Sales and Business Marketing Association and my fraternity, Sigma Phi Epsilon, stand at the forefront. Both of these organizations contributed to countless memories that I will remember for the rest of my life.
Dr. Jim Eckert had a significant impact on me and I’m sure on many other former students. He was able to connect with students unlike any other teacher I have ever encountered. The structure of his classes can be intimidating at first, but by the end of the semester, I appreciated the challenge, and felt successful having conquered it. His passion for teaching is obvious and he challenges you to work harder.
My business was recently featured in an article about local entrepreneurs in a metro Detroit magazine called Red Thread. The writer interviewed several of my clients, and once the piece was published, I was able to see what they said. Reading their personal stories about my business and how much it helped them was incredibly humbling and gratifying. It made everything I’ve worked so hard for feel completely worth it.
College was the most incredible journey of my life and no one should take it for granted. Before you know it, you'll be walking down that stage shaking Dr. Dunn's hand, wondering how it all happened so fast. Enjoy every single day.
