This award is designed to promote collaborative and interdisciplinary research at Western Michigan University in support of the College of Arts and Sciences strategic plan. The purpose of this award is to nurture and develop collaborative and interdisciplinary endeavors that culminate in the submission of competitive interdisciplinary extramural grant proposals. First-time collaborators are welcome.
Award selection
Up to $5000 per award may be provided which can be used for salary supplementation of any or all group members (up to $1500 per member), research supplies, travel to research meetings, student stipend supplementation and/or any other purposes that support the project goals.
All awards are subject to final budgetary approval and authorization by the dean of the college.

Application
Interdisciplinary Research Initiative applications will be reviewed by faculty from the College of Arts and Sciences RSCA Committee. Awards will be granted to collaborative interdisciplinary teams based on the quality of ideas presented in the application, the quality of the collaborative and interdisciplinary interactions and the potential for obtaining external funding. Proposals should identify a team member from within the College of Arts and Sciences to be the point of contact should that proposal be selected for funding.
