Scholarships
A number of scholarships are available for students enrolled at the College of Aviation. Students are encouraged to apply for all scholarships which appear to match their interests, career goals, financial and/or academic needs. Scholarships are divided into three types.
1. College of Aviation Scholarship Feed
The College of Aviation Scholarship Feed provides up to date scholarship opportunities and information. Subscribe by Email to receive updates when new scholarship opportunities become available.
2. Internal Scholarships
Offered uniquely at the WMU College of Aviation; recipients are internally selected by the College of Aviation after receiving an application from interested students.
- College of Aviation W. K. Kellogg Foundation Diversity in Aviation Scholarship - Due by February 15, 2013
- College of Aviation General Scholarship Application - Due by March 15, 2013
3. External Collaborative Scholarships
Offered through external organizations; recipients are recommended by external organizations which have a collaborative relationship with the College of Aviation. Because External Collaborative Scholarships are awarded in collaboration with organizations which have an existing relationship with the College of Aviation, students are highly encouraged to apply for scholarships in this category.
4. Other Scholarships
Offered by a variety of external organizations at local, state and national levels; recipients are exclusively selected by participating organizations. Because the College of Aviation encourages organizations to develop an ongoing relationship with the College in which scholarships are consistently made to WMU students, students receiving scholarships from external organizations are encouraged to notify the College about their scholarship so that a collaboration between the organizations may be pursued.
Because scholarships in categories 1 & 2 above are selected by the College of Aviation or in collaboration with organizations which work closely with the College of Aviation, scholarships in categories 1 & 2 are easier to receive generally than scholarships in category 3. Students receiving scholarships in category 3 are requested to notify the College of Aviation Development Office so that a collaborative relationship may be established with the donor organization. Guidance for Scholarship Applicants In applying for any scholarship, it is important to follow the directions carefully. Some scholarship applications may ask for a resume. Resumes will be evaluated based on the stated objective, educational background, work experience/extracurricular activities/volunteer work, leadership roles held and the overall quality and appearance of the resume. Some scholarship applications may ask for an essay on a specific topic. Essays will be evaluated based on the quality of the introduction (a brief abstract), development of the topic (amount, depth and specificity of supporting details), conclusion (summarizes the material and does not introduce new material), sentence structure (grammar), mechanical conventions (spelling, capitalization and punctuation) and overall quality and appearance.
