WMU-Battle Creek Partnerships

The International Food Protection Training Institute (IFPTI)

WMU partners with The International Food Protection Training Institute (IFPTI) which is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization established to deliver career-spanning food protection training for state and local food protection professionals to assure competency and equivalency in meeting established U.S. federal food safety standards. Working in partnership with the Association of Food and Drug Officials (AFDO), the Institute seeks to protect the public's health by working with federal, state, local, tribal, and territorial food protection officials in the creation of an integrated national food protection system that ensures the safety of the U.S. food supply. Battle Creek programming will be delivered at Western Michigan University's Kendall Center.  Initial funding for IFPTI provided by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation.

More information on KCC can be found at: http://www.kellogg.edu/.

WMU and Thomas M. Cooley Law School

Recognizing the close association between the law and public administration, Western Michigan University and Thomas M. Cooley Law School have formed a partnership to offer the Joint Juris Doctor (J.D.)/Master of Public Administration (MPA) degree.  This program permits students to acquire the knowledge of both disciplines and expedite completion of the requirements for both the MPA degree and the JD degree by allowing participating students to transfer six semester hours of credit from one degree program to the other, resulting in a total course reduction of twelve semester hours when both degrees are completed.

Green Manufacturing

WMU-Battle Creek is taking part in the launching of a green manufacturing (GM) initiative to research environmental products and processes. Also known as sustainable or environmentally benign manufacturing, GM practices focus on preventing pollution and saving energy at all points in the design, manufacturing, marketing and recycling process. This WMU initiative grew out of input from area companies and manufacturers in an answer to common issues and concerns.
