Research interests

Dr. Pearl's overall research interest centers on the hormonal control of male reproductive function. Research in the lab focuses on how alterations in the androgen and/or estrogen signaling pathway affects overall fertility, as well as individual components of the reproductive tract including the testis, epididymis and pituitary. Techniques commonly used in the lab include morphometry, immunohistochemistry, western blotting, celltissue culture and ELISA. Currently questions being addressed in the lab include: how do changes in estrogen concentration and receptor expression contribute to declining fertility in aging male; does the phytoestrogen content of the diet affect spermatogenesis and reproductive capacity; does an altered androgen/estrogen environment contribute to infertility in a mouse model of obesity?
