Paul Cartwright, instructor of marketing at Western Michigan University, is CEO and program designer of Kalamazoo-based Cardinal, LLC and a financial aid counselor at WMU.
Cartwright formed his first company in 1990 in Nottingham, England, providing financing for capital equipment leases. Starting from a single office and with two employees, he grew the company to sales revenue of over $400 million in ten years with a team of more then a 100 employees. Cartwright sold the company in 2000 before moving to Michigan.
Cartwright teaches marketing principles, marketing research and business principles. His areas of expertise include:

As a consultant, Cartwright has worked with Ford, Paris Metro rapid transit company, British Airways, EADS, Rolls Royce Motors, Jaguar, as well as many smaller companies, particularly in the financial and defense sectors.
Cartwright is a member of U.K.’s Institute of Management and the Chartered Institute of Marketing, as well as the American Marketing Association.
From 1978 to 1990, he worked in engineering sales and marketing. He served twenty-two years as a reservist in the British armed forces, including six years with Special Forces, rising from the ranks to retire as a major.
A graduate of the UK’s Special Forces School and staff officer courses, he qualified as a reconnaissance operator and scout/sniper. He is also a qualified HALO/HAHO parachutist. Cartwright is a recipient of the equivalent of two U.S. Navy Crosses.
As a graduate of the NATO Schools Tactical Leadership Program, Operational Planning Program, Combined Joint Operations Centre and the Defense Academy of the United Kingdom, Cartwright is used to working with people at all levels and building successful leaders.
