Thanachai Damrithamnij

Winning Nomination:

Thanachai Damrithamnij, know as Tony, is often a student that frequently is overlooked here at the BC Dining Unit because he works a job that is so incredibly unique, not to mention, he has been here nearly six years. Tony aids our stockmen Roy and Mark on a daily basis; however, he has become near irreplaceable himself. In fact, many of our staff often confuse him with a full time employee.

Not only is Tony capable of opening the loading dock and getting things up and running in the morning, he has frequently filled in for Roy and Mark (both full time staff). He is relied upon immensely by all who work here because he also is always willing to help out in the kitchen if need be. Even though Tony isn't a regular kitchen employee, he has already mastered our rotation schedules for the food and food handling procedures; something I frequently see employees who have been working in the kitchen for years not doing.

Originally Tony started out as part of a crew of four (all working 20 hours a week) but due to budget cuts, Tony more than easily took on the work of the other three thereby replacing four students with just one. Because of the fact that Tony is so responsible, he has his own set of keys for the building. Tony also sets his own schedule which allows the stockmen not to have to worry about managing him and concentrate on their jobs.

Tony worked for us as an undergrad and is now back working for us while completing his Masters. "Hopefully he'll get his doctorate so I can keep him," says one of the stockmen.
