Dr. Paul F. Krause graduated from Michigan State University in 1970 with a B.A. in Geography. In 1976 he completed his M.A. in Geography at WMU. After serving as a civilian employee for the U.S. Army over nearly 20 years, he completed the Ph.D. in Geography in 1996 at Kent State University. Following his graduate studies he served as head of the U.S. Army climate support unit for all new materials developments and assessments of the operational equipment standards relative to meteorological factors. He received numerous awards and citations for outstanding service during his career. In 1996 he was awarded the Scientific and Technological Achievement citation; in 1999 the Wilbur B. Payne Award for Service; in 2000 the Department of Defense Modeling and Simulation Award; and in 2004 the Engineering and Development Center Terrain Analysis Support Team Award. His career has seen great changes in the technological aspects of the U.S. Army and the role of civilian employees in research and development. He continues to be a member of the American Meteorological Society. During his career and since his retirement he has been engaged in public service activities, having devoted most time to the Fredrick's Area Food Bank and the Neighborhood Watch in the local community. Over the years, Dr. Krause has stayed in contact with his student colleagues in geography and with faculty members at Western. |
