History
- Counselor Education and Counseling Psychology program at WMU dates back to the mid 1930s when courses in guidance were first offered.

In 1953, the first counselor education degree program at WMU “Guidance”was established.

In 1964, the unit “Guidance and Personnel Services” was established within the Department of School Services in the School of Education.

In 1969, the Department of Counseling and Personnel was created.

The department’s name was changed to the Department of Counselor Education and Counseling Psychology in 1985.
