  • You must have completed undergraduate work in communication, speech or allied disciplines and have achieved at least a 3.0 grade point average in your last two years of course work. If you have not completed undergraduate work in communication, you may still apply but may need to complete additional course requirements.
  • Additional course work may be required at the time of admission into the program, as deemed necessary by the director of graduate studies.
  • Some course credits from other programs of study or from another universities may count towards a degree from the School of Communication. Check with the graduate director.

Application Process

WMU has a new online application system (ApplyYourself) for all potential graduate students, domestic and international.  All materials should be submitted through this one system, including general application information for the University, as well as specific requirements for the School of Communication.  Required elements for the master’s program in Communication include a transcript, a personal statement, a writing sample, three recommendations and a GRE score. All of these can be entered and managed through the online application system.

Early Deadline for Applications - February 1

The School of Communication accepts applications for September and January admission on a rolling basis until all available slots are filled.
The early application deadline for September admission is February 1st. Students who wish to be considered for graduate assistantships are advised to submit their applications by February 1st.
