About Me:

JoNina Abron, MA, Associate Professor of Communication, joined the faculty in 1990. She received her master of arts degree from Purdue University. Her areas of expertise include news writing, reporting, and the Black Power era of 1965-1975. Professor Abron is the author of several book chapters and she has published articles in The Journal of Intergroup Relations, The Black Scholar, and several newspapers. Professor Abron has served as a reporter for the Chicago Defender, editor of the Black Panther newspaper, managing editor of The Black Scholar, and media/publicity coordinator for several groups, including the 1984 Jesse Jackson Campaign for President in California's 8th Congressional District. She is currently a contributing writer to the National Newspaper Publishers Association, The Black World Today, among others, and a member of the Board of Contributing and Advisory Editors of The Black Scholar.
