Jane Baas has been a member of the Western Michigan University dance faculty since 1981 and recently completed serving her fifth term as department chair. She now serves as the associate dean of the Lee Honors College but continues to teach Dance Kinesiology for the Department of Dance. She received her B.S. and M.A. degrees in dance from WMU and her M.F.A. in dance from Case Western Reserve University. She has served on the boards of the Michigan Dance Association and the American College Dance Festival Association and directed the festival at WMU in 1985, 1996 and 2007. She has frequently served as a site evaluator for the National Association of Schools of Dance. Baas received grants to produce her own concerts in 1989 and 1993. Research projects focusing on dancer wellness are currently in progress with colleagues at Case Western Reserve University with current information available at the project website. She has presented at conferences and workshops nationally and abroad. Baas currently teaches kinesiology, choreography and dance history. She is a member of the International Association for Dance Medicine and Science, serves on the editorial board for the Journal of Dance Medicine & Science and is the department representative to the National Association of Schools of Dance and Michigan Dance Council.
