Topic:  PowerPoint Introductory Lesson.

 

Goals: Open an existing PowerPoint Presentation.

            View an existing presentation.

            Add a slide to a presentation.

            Change the slide order within a presentation.

            Create a new slide show.

 

  1. Log onto the network using your username and password.  If this is your first time on the network, please try to sit by someone who has experience and can help you.

 

  1. Launch PowerPoint:

 

    1. Go to the “Start Button” on the lower left hand side of the screen and press your left mouse button.
    2. Move your cursor to the word that says “Programs” wait a few seconds. A list of available programs will appear. 
    3. The lower left of your screen will look something like this:

    1. Move your cursor to “Microsoft PowerPoint” and press your left mouse button once.  This will launch the program.
  1. Opening an existing Presentation:
    1. Upon launching the program, you will be given four choices:

                                                               i.      Auto content wizard.

                                                             ii.      Design Template

                                                            iii.      Blank presentation.

                                                           iv.      Open an existing presentation.

    1. Select “Open an existing presentation”.
    2. Go to the public folder on the H:\ drive and select Power Point Demo.
    3. You will see a screen that looks like this:

 

 

Viewing a Presentation:

  1. In the lower left hand side of the screen, you will see four “view” buttons:

  1. The significance of the numbers above the buttons are as follows:
    1. 1-Normal view.  Allows you to see the outline as well as the slide that you are currently working on.
    2. 2-Outline view.  Organizes your presentation in an outline form and allows you to see all text on each of the slides.
    3. 3- Slide view.  Allows you to see a selected slide very close up.
    4. 4- Slide Sorter View. Shows the slides in the order that they will be presented.  You can change the order, add, or delete slides from this view.
    5. 5- Slide Show. Allows you to begin the slide show with animations, transitions, etc.
  2. Select the Slide Sorter view.
  3. Place your cursor on the first slide and press the left mouse button once.
  4. Move your cursor onto the Slide Show button and push the left mouse button once. (the slide show should begin, starting with the first slide.
  5. To move to the next slide, push the space bar.
  6. When you are finished viewing the slide show, the program will return you to one of the views listed above.

 

Adding a Slide:

  1. On the Standard Toolbar, there is a button that looks like this:
  2. To add a new slide, place your cursor on top of it and press with the left mouse button.
  3. A screen will appear that lets you choose the layout of the new slide.

  1. Select the layout of the slide that you would like to add.
  2. Place your cursor on the area of the slide where you would like to add the new text and begin typing.
  3. Press “Enter” when you are finished typing.
  4. Continue this process for each area of text that you would like to add.

 

Changing Slide Order:

 

  1. Using your mouse, select the Slide Sorter View
  2. Each of the slides will show up as small icons on the screen.
  3. To change the slide order, “drag” the slides to the desired location.

 

Save this slide show in your folder.

 

 

A slide show is formed by creating new slides and putting them in order.

 

 

 

 

Reviewing Transitions and Making Buttons

 

Goals:   1.  Review the slide show transitions and manipulations.

             2.  Making a button

1.   Log onto network.

 

2.  Starting Microsoft Power Point:

On computers that are on the network, you will see a white window that appears upon login.  On the right side of the window will be available programs.  Using your mouse, “double click” on the Microsoft Excel icon.

 

Microsoft Power Point will start and bring up a new document.

 

On computers that are not on the network, you will need to go to the Start Button in the lower left hand corner.  Click it once.

 

A list will pop up.  Position your mouse over the word “Programs”.  Do not push any mouse buttons.

 

Another list will pop up.  Place your mouse over “Microsoft Power Point” and click the mouse once.

 

Microsoft Power Point will start and bring up a new document. 

Reviewing Slide Show manipulations and transitions.

Select slide sorter view

2.     

Right click on a slide and look at your options.

a.       “Set up show” look at your different options and make the choice that you would like to do in organizing your presentation.

b.      “Slide Transition” use this option to preview and select the different transitions that you would like to use from slide to slide in your presentation.

c.       “Preset Animation” use this to preview and manipulate how the text on each of your slides enters or is presented.

Making Buttons

1.      First go to menu bar “Slide Show”

2.      Select action buttons and then pick your style.

3.     

Select the size of your button by using the cross hair, hold and click with your left mouse button and drag to the desired size (release button).

4.      Then make a selection as to where you would like your hyperlink (button) to go.
