Ice cube on a String

Materials:

· Ice cubes

· cold water

· salt

· glass

· string

Experiment:

1. Put ice in glass of cold water, wait for it to stop bobbing.

2. Lay end of string on ice cube, and carefully sprinkle end of string with salt, where it touches the ice.

3. Wait at least 15 seconds, and raise ice cube from glass using string.

Terms

Melting point: transition temperature from a solid to a liquid

Boiling point: transition temperature from a liquid to a vapor

Freezing point: transition temperature from liquid to solid (opposite of melting point)
