Ted Townsend earned a bachelor’s degree from WMU in 1975. He also holds a Master of Science in Healthcare Administration from the Medical College of Virginia, Virginia Commonwealth University. Mr. Townsend is the President and CEO of St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He is also currently serving as Senior Vice President of the Iowa Health System, which includes eleven hospitals across Iowa and western Illinois.
Ted has been with St. Luke’s since June of 2002. In 2005 and 2006 St. Luke’s has been recognized as a Top 100 Hospital in America and is the only Iowa hospital so recognized in 2006. Mr. Townsend held chief operating roles in two other Top 100 hospitals prior to moving to Cedar Rapids. He was born and raised on a farm outside of St. Louis, Michigan and is the oldest of five siblings.
Mr. Townsend and his wife Cathy have three children. He is involved with many local and national organizations including the Cedar Rapids Symphony Board, the ARC Board, and the Waypoint Board. He is a former teacher and currently mentors a student through the Big Brothers/Big Sisters organization.
