In response to the need for additional teacher-research on African American students, this article offers a case study of how one African American student-writer successfully produces expository writing in an Afrocentric first-year writing course at Michigan State University, a large land-grant midwestern research institution.

Drew Wolford receives Service Learning Award

Western Michigan University's Office of Service Learning has recognized Drew Wolford's exemplary work writing for the nonprofit organization, ActiveWater. Wolford's work (part of a fall 2011 special topics course in "Style, Identification, and Persona in Professional Writing") produced a style manual, an informational flyer, a letterhead set, and a promotional mailer for ActiveWater.
