Scorecard: Toxics Release Inventory

A good source of information on major pollutors in your community is maintained by the Green Media Toolshed. This user-friendly version of the Toxics Release Inventory is a U.S. Government database recording releases of specific toxic compounds from industrial sources in the U.S. on an annual basis. Information is voluntarily from private industry; not all industries are tabulated.

Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change

The IPCC was established by the World Health Organization and the United Nations Environment Programme to assess scientific, technical and socioeconomic information relevant to the understanding of climate change, its potential impacts, and options for adaptation and mitigation. The IPCC has available information on human-induced climate change and how climate works.

These activities change attitudes toward nature and help people imagine wildlife and humans living in sustainable interaction, on both a local and a global scale.

Society for Conservation Biology

The Society for Conservation Biology (SCB) is an international professional organization dedicated to promoting the scientific study of the phenomena that affect the maintenance, loss, and restoration of biological diversity. The Society's membership includes a wide range of people interested in the conservation and study of biological diversity; resource managers, educators, government and private conservation workers, and students make up the more than 10,000 members world wide.

Union of Concerned Scientists

The UCS is an independent nonprofit alliance of more than 100,000 concerned citizens and scientists, who augment rigorous scientific analysis with innovative thinking and committed citizen advocacy to build a cleaner, healthier environment and a safer world. The UCS website contains a wealth of information about most major environmental issues.

Founded by Amory Lovins, the RMI is a nonprofit organization that promotes energy efficiency, renewable energy technologies, and economic innovations designed to foster global sustainability.
