There are many things that employers look for in potential employees. Experience is one thing. But academic minors can also be important when considering the potential of job applicants.
The Addiction Studies minor can enhance many different degrees offered at WMU. The program prepares students for a number of different careers with substance abuse knowledge. The curriculum focuses equally on theory and practice and explores many different methods for dealing with the substance abuse issues.
Coursework for the minor can be completed entirely online or with some face-to-face classes on WMU's main campus in Kalamazoo, Michigan. This multi-disciplinary, 18 credit hour minor prepares students to effectively deal with abuse issues in professional and personal settings.
Course credit hours for this minor may be applied to the educational requirement for the Certified Addictions Counselor Reciprocal (CAC-R) credential. The CAC-R credential is the entry level credential for Certified Addictions Counselors in Michigan.
Current students with a related major at WMU are eligible to complete this minor.
