There are a variety of other scholarships to consider, including those offered through intercollegiate athletics, fraternities and sororities and off-campus organizations.

Tuition Reduction for Eligible WMU Cooley law school employees

Eligibility

  • Be an actively employed full-time benefits eligible faculty or staff member at Western Michigan University Thomas M. Cooley Law School (WMU-Cooley).
  • Be a current spouse of an eligible WMU-Cooley employee, for the purpose of said employee's federal income tax return, and be reported as such for the period for which the tuition reduction is granted, or;
  • Be a biological child, legal adopted child, or step-child of an eligible WMU-Cooley employee, each of which must also be claimed as a dependent on said employee's federal income tax return for the period for which the tuition reduction is granted.

Terms of Tuition Reduction

  • Eligible individual must apply and be admitted through WMU's application process;
  • Must be pursuing an undergraduate program and/or a graduate degree;
  • For employees, graduate level programs with a lifetime maximum limit, per individual, of 90 credit hours or one graduate degree, whichever comes first (Note: Non-credit courses will not be included in this tuition reduction);
  • For employees, spouses, and child(ren), a lifetime maximum limit, per individual, of one undergraduate degree or 130 credit hours, whichever comes first (Note: Non-credit courses will not be included in this tuition reduction).
  • Must maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress.

Tuition Reduction

  • For undergraduate courses, 50% of any tuition and the enrollment fee costs remaining after all tuition and required fee-specific awards have been applied, whether WMU or external.
  • For graduate courses, 25% of any tuition and the enrollment fee costs remaining after all tuition and required fee-specific awards have been applied, whether WMU of external.
  • With the exception of the enrollment fee, this tuition reduction benefit applies to no other fees; all other fees will be charged at standard rates.

Receiving a tuition reduction may be taxable to the individual employee and be reported to the taxing authorities in the manner prescribed by law by Western Michigan University Thomas M. Cooley Law School. If tax withholding or FICA taxes are required, such tax with-holdings will be the responsibility of Western Michigan University Thomas M. Cooley Law School.
