  • Freshman with 2.5 GPA overall and a 3.0 GPA in mathematics and the sciences
  • Planning to major in engineering, mathematics, computer or the physical sciences

Berrien Community Foundation Dunn Scholarship

Eligibility

Established by Jeanne & Eddie R. Dunn, this program provides scholarships to part-time or full-time undergraduate or graduate students demonstrating financial need.

You must be entering or presently attending an accredited college/university in any field of study and have a 2.75 or better GPA.

Preference will be given to women in transition (e.g., returning to college after raising children, a divorce, or widowed with definite goals for the next steps in their lives).

This scholarship can be used at Andrews University, Lake Michigan College, Southwestern Michigan College, or Western Michigan University in Berrien County for tuition, books, fees, and other costs related to attending.

Awards

  • Nonrenewable scholarship of $1,000-$5,000.

Berrien Community Foundation Dunn, Samaritan Counseling Center Volunteerism Scholarship

Eligibility

This nonrenewable scholarship was established by Eddie R. Dunn and is available to part- and full-time undergraduate or graduate students in at least their first year Andrews University, Lake Michigan College, Southwestern Michigan College or WMU-Berrien County Campus. Preference will be given to students in business administration and/or information technology and must have a 2.75 GPA or better.

Berrien Community Foundation Howard Instrumental

Eligibility

This scholarship was established to encourage young people with a gift for music and the drive to be a musician to continue with their formal educations.

This award is offered to those individuals who are pursuing a degree in instrumental music (i.e., Music Ed/Applied Music) at an accredited college or university with emphasis on upperclassmen and post-graduate students.

Awards

  • May be renewed through reapplication process, dependent on available funds.
  • Amount of $1,000-$2,000

The Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel-Berrien County Chapter

Eligibility

This program is open to students who will be seniors in the field of education and will be student teaching during the upcoming school year.  The students must be graduates of a Berrien County high school and attending a Michigan college or university.  The candidates must have a “B” average.

  • Two awards for fall 2011
  • $750 each

Gail and Hilda Oster Scholarship

Eligibility

The Kalamazoo Community Foundation administers the Gail and Hilda Oster Scholarship. Recipients must be a Van Buren County resident or graduate of a high school within Van Buren County (Michigan); enrolled or planning to enroll full time in a bachelor’s degree program at the University of Michigan or Western Michigan University in education or mathematics; have a minimum 2.75 GPA.

Perry, John W. Fund

Eligibility

The DRCNet Foundation, in association with Students for Sensible Drug Policy, is pleased to present the John W. Perry Fund, providing scholarships to students losing federal financial aid because of drug convictions.

Jeannette Rankin Foundation (JRF) Scholarship

Every year the Jeannette Rankin Foundation awards scholarships to women 35 years of age and older who, through undergraduate or vocational education, are seeking to better themselves, their families and their communities.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Women, at least 35 years of age or older
  • U.S. citizens
  • Pursuing a technical/vocational degree, an associate's degree, or a first bachelor's degree.
  • Enrolled or accepted in an accredited school
  • Low income

Jeptha Wade Schureman Scholarship for Fatherless Children

This scholarship provides children who have lost their fathers because of death or loss of parental rights with a scholarship for use at one of the 15 public universities in Michigan.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for 2010-2011 and demonstrate financial need at their chosen university
  • Demonstrate strong scholastic achievement by maintaining a minimum of a 3.0 grade point average
  • Demonstrate leadership and character through extracurricular activities, service at school and in the community, volunteer involvement and paid work experience
  • Must pursue or plan to pursue a degree in the fields of law, nursing, medicine or dentistry on a full-time basis
  • Be between the ages of 17-27 at the time of application
  • Must be or have been a resident of Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Monroe, Lenawee, Washtenaw, Livingston or St. Clair counties at the time of high school graduation
