The mission of the Western Michigan University Orientation program is to provide a comprehensive experience which will aid new students in their transition to the institution, expose new students to the educational opportunities within WMU, integrate new students into the academic and campus life of the institution, increase the retention rate of new students, assist parents of new students to understand the University environment and services, and enhance parental awareness of issues facing college students.
If you were not able to attend Orientation in June, we have two one-day sessions to help prepare you for your fall semester. They are Tuesday, July 22 and Tuesday, August 12. Students will learn about the First-Year Experience, the student billing process, campus safety, Degree Works and the authorized user process. They will also meet with Academic Advisors and register for their fall classes. Parents and families wishing to attend will also receive information about Financial Aid, on-campus living, and attend a seminar that simulates the transition to and through the college experience.
Students should plan to arrive at 8:30 a.m. and check in on the second floor of the Bernhard Center. The Bernhard Center is located at 1903 W. Michigan Avenue, Kalamazoo, MI 49008.
For those guests attending the New Student or Parent/Family Orientation Program, a free parking permit for a specific enrolled session will be available with your orientation confirmation. The permit will be attached to your emailed confirmation. Please check your student email account. Print and place in your vehicle on the passenger-side dashboard.
The cost of this Orientation session is $105. It covers all programming costs, a continental breakfast and hot lunch for the student and up to two family members. You do not need to pay in advance. The fee will be billed directly to the student account in August.
