Current Seita Scholars
WMU's community of Seita scholars grew to a total 141 students in fall 2011. Some interesting facts about current Seita scholars:
- Seita scholars have come to WMU from over 30 counties.
- Seita scholars are represented in over 30 majors at WMU.
- Seita scholars have many noteable achievements including: Dean’s Honor List; Foster Club All Star; Residence Hall Assistants; NSF Intern Recipient; Study Abroad program participants; Club and Varsity team members; and leadership positions in student organizations, just to name a few.
- Seita scholars are actively involved:
- On campus through a Registered Student Organization called Foster Youth and Higher Education! As far as we know, it is the first student-run foster youth organization established on a college campus. Go Seita scholars!
- In the local community through Kalamazoo County's Michigan Youth Opportunity Initiative (MYOI). Seita scholars meet with younger foster youth in the community and plan events together.
- In the professional arena by giving presentations about issues facing foster youth at workshops, DHS trainings and professional conferences.
- On the national scene by presenting in Washington, DC and being selected as Foster Club All Stars!
