George and Beatrice Fisher Gerontology Dissertation Prize
Spring 2012
This annual award recognizes doctoral dissertations that best advance the study and understanding of the process of aging. The prize may be awarded in any discipline or field for research that relates to aging or elderly populations. This broadly defined area of interest could include research that is not directly conducted on elderly populations but could have application for treatment of diseases associated with aging (such as research on the progression of such diseases in animals, or development of potential pharmacological treatments), oral history projects focused on elderly adults, as well as scholarly projects directly involving elderly subjects. Students from across the humanities, the social sciences, and the natural sciences are especially welcome to apply.
Candidates must be in good academic standing. Nominations from department chairs or graduate advisors must be sent to the Graduate College and include a summary of the nominee’s research in the area of gerontology, a current vita, and a letter of support from the department chair or graduate advisor that describes the student’s dissertation research and the student’s progress to-date on the dissertation.
The annual award is made during the month of June. For 2012, up to two awards of $1,000.00 will be available. Nomination deadline is 5 p.m. on Monday, May 14, 2012.
