Body Image: Changes Over Time in the Interpretation of the Ideal Body

Crap, I'm a Millionaire
Which is worse: not getting what you wanted, or getting everything you dreamed of and still not feeling satisfied? Why is it that lottery winners often go bankrupt within two years of striking it rich? What are the ingredients of lifelong bliss? This workshop explores the current research on happiness and explains why our understanding of gratification and satisfaction is often flawed. Participants will learn about the sources of happiness, its important connection to sadness, and why having too many choices often contributes to our feeling of dissatisfaction.

Eating Healthy in the WMU Dining Halls
This workshop will be led by Kelsey Schuring, Registered Dietitian with WMU Dining Services. She will instruct you on how to make healthy choices in the WMU dining halls that are in line with the 2010 dietary guidelines.  This will be an interactive course that will include a live food demonstration and samples.

FIRE! Becoming Part of the Change You Want to See!
F.I.R.E. Sexual Assault Peer Educators, a group of men and women committed to ending sexual assault, will educate their peers on strategies they can employ to end sexual assault at Western and within their communities. Students will also learn how to support a survivor of sexual assault, and the area resources which can help facilitate a person’s recovery from an assault.

Healthy Vegetarian Eating
Discover the health benefits of a plant based diet.

Intimate Partner Violence and the Warning Signs
Learn about the warning signs of intimate partner violence (domestic violence) and what to do with those close to us, for us personally, and in public places.

Sexual Assault Risk Reduction Strategies
Learn about risk reduction strategies for college students. Includes a look at how we can be agents of change in our environments.

Sports Nutrition
The demands of recreational or competitive sports require specific nutrition needs. Learn how to get the most from your diet without the use of expensive nutritional gimmicks.

Stress Busting
This interactive workshop will discuss all aspects of stress – what it is, where it comes from, and most importantly how to deal with it. Students will learn about and practice a variety of stress-relieving activities and consider ways to implement them into their daily lives.

The Art of Sexual Navigation
A presentation that focuses on the road to sex by discussing personal values; examining various sexual behaviors that are not commonly discussed in traditional sex education; taking an in-depth look at the various condoms that are available on the market; and ways of integrating condom use into relationships.

Yoga Nidra
Yoga nidra is a scientific approach to relaxation. It systematically deprograms tension from the most gross to the most subtle layers of our body and mind. Yoga nidra is a unique state of restful awareness.   In 50 minutes, the nidra process can restore the nervous system as if you acquired four hours of sleep. Suggestion: Wear warm clothing or bring a light blanket.
