Important Notice: If you are a legal permanent resident of the United States under the age of 21 years and cannot afford health insurance, you may meet eligibility requirements for Medicaid. You may obtain an application from the State of Michigan website and click on the Health & Services tab at michigan.gov. When you do meet State of MI eligibility requirements and are asked to choose a Medicaid HMO Plan, Sindecuse Health Center accepts the Health Plan of Michigan. This plan may be used in most counties in the lower peninsula of MI. You may learn more about the Health Plan of Michigan at hpmich.com/corporatehome.shtml. Sindecuse Health Center also accepts “straight” Medicaid.
Other Michigan Medicaid HMO plans may not authorize your treatment at Sindecuse Health Center. You may change your current Medicaid HMO to the Health Plan of Michigan by calling Michigan Enrolls at 1-888-367-6557.
If you are a legal alien studying at WMU, Michigan Medicaid is no longer an option for health insurance for yourselves and your dependents. In previous years, Michigan granted Medicaid to international students and their dependents in error. The state has corrected their error and is no longer providing this coverage for legal aliens and their dependents. Your dependents must be insured through your health insurance plan. Children born in the United States are no longer eligible for the Michigan MI Child Medicaid program if their parents plan to bring them back to their home country. These policies are available on the State of Michigan website at michigan.gov.
