Enrollment will be accepted for the SPRING semester WMU student health insurance program between December 5 and January 20 .
To purchase the policy:
Coverage begins January 1, no matter what day you purchase during open enrollment.
Students must have at least one SPRING credit hour at WMU to qualify to purchase.
If you lose health insurance from a different source in the middle of a semester, contact the Sindecuse Health Center Student Insurance Office to see if you qualify for a mid-semester enrollment in the WMU program.
Enrollment using your GA/TA benefit subsidy is only done at the beginning of the fall and/or spring semesters. Do not enroll on the Aetna website. Go to www.wmich.edu/grad for info and to enroll in the insurance program.
Health insurance is mandatory while studying in the US, and is automatically purchased for you and charged to your university account. Your SPRING tuition bill will show the SPRING/SUMMER insurance fee.
Waiver applications can be completed online during the open enrollment/waiver period:
The waiver deadline is January 20.
YOU ONLY HAVE ONE WAIVER OPPORTUNITY PER YEAR.
The requirements for a private insurance are:
All dependent enrollment is done online at the Aetna Student Health website. Domestic students will include dependents when they enroll themselves. International students and Graduate Assistants will use the appropriate form specific for your status.
Sindecuse Health Center claims will be submitted directly to our student insurance company. Our policy is a member of the Aetna PPO network. If you need to see a specialist (with a referral from Sindecuse), or if you are further than 25 miles from campus, you can access the DocFind section on the Aetna Student Health website to locate a participating provider. Insurance payments for Preferred Providers vs. Out-of-Network Providers are explained in the student insurance policy brochure found online.
