Configuring WMU Secure Wireless With OSX

Western Michigan University is in the process of adding secure wireless. It is not yet available in all buildings (see campus locations). Once you have configured your machine, you will be able to choose "WMU Secure" as a connection choice, if it is available where you are connecting from. Otherwise, you will continue to use "tsunami", which is unsecured. "WMU Secure" wireless will automatically encrypt your transmissions.

To automatically configure your machine to use "WMU Secure":

  1. Open Safari and browse to www.wmich.edu/securewifi.
  2. Read the End-User License Agreement linked on the bottom right and then click the checkbox to accept the terms.
  3. Click Start>.
  4. XpressConnect should load and a pop-up will appear. Click Allow to let the applet to load. (If XpressConnect does not load, follow the instructions below to manually configure your computer.
  5. Click Run.
  6. Enter your Bronco NetID and Password in the dialog box and click Continue.
  7. Now enter your computer's administrator username and password (this is not your Bronco NetID) and click OK.
  8. XpressConnect will now attempt to join "WMU Secure".
  9. If configuration was successful, you will be informed you have successfully connected to "WMU Secure".
  10. Click Done to finish and exit configuration.

Manually configure your computer

  1. If XpressConnect did not load , click the manual download page link that is displayed.
  2. Click the network profile link.
  3. Click Downloads on the OSX Launchpad and then click the mac_####.mobileconfig file. (The #### will be replaced by a 4 digit number.)
  4. Click Continue to install "Western Michigan University Secure Wifi".
  5. Enter your Bronco NetID and Password in the Username and Password boxes and then click Install.
  6. Now enter your computer's administrator username and password (this is not your Bronco NetID) and click OK.
  7. A User Profile for Western Michigan University Secure Wifi should display.
  8. Join "WMU Secure" by clicking the wifi icon at the top of the screen and then clicking "WMU Secure".
  9. Clicking the wifi icon at the top of the screen should now display "WMU Secure" as checked and you are now connected to "WMU Secure".
