Helen Beck wins 2012 Customer Service Award

Faculty, staff, students and community members benefit from her highly professional service, her  welcoming and helpful smile and her true passion for what she does.

The high number of nominations and letters of support she received speak volumes as to Beck's positive impact on college constituents. Quotes from the letters and nominations make it very clear. One nominator wrote, "What is most heartening is her manner and ability to interact with and help persons who have a disability or a mental health condition navigate the building."

"She is one of the kindest people I have encountered at WMU," said another supporter. "I have the feeling that she is truly listening when I ask a question or have a request."

"She is a calm and steady presence. She goes above and beyond to help accommodate students and is a wonderful support. She lifted my spirits with genuine enthusiasm for my goals."

Overall, Beck is known to "epitomize employees who hold attentive and accommodating service to students, faculty and staff as the primary responsibility of their jobs. She has an absolutely unwavering concern for the success of our ultimate customers, our students."

In 2008, she was honored with the creation of the Helen Beck Student Emergency Fund. Those who initiated the fund in her name noted that "she quietly and unselfishly gives students the attention and encouragement they need to persist—indeed flourish…"

Beck is a stellar example of what makes this college and University great. She is truly a role model and is a living benchmark which all of us should strive to meet.
