Since it was established in 1982—one of the first programs of its kind in the nation—the Holistic Health Care Program at WMU has innovated and evolved, responding to new discoveries in the discipline and to emerging health care trends. Our new name, Integrative Holistic Health and Wellness, continues that tradition, expressing the program’s vision and mission today and for the future.
Retaining the “holistic health” terminology provides for continuity, since it has been affiliated with the program since its inception. Adding “integrative” confirms the fundamental philosophy and practice of the program over the years and connects with the overall health care field as it moves toward more integrative models. “Wellness” represents the concept of prevention, a core aspect of the program.
