Dr. Frances Lohr Speech Pathology and Audiology Endowment

Provides supplemental funding for a graduate student assistantship. The amount of the supplemental funding may be over and above or partially in place of the standard graduate assistantship salary and stipend amounts as determined annually by the Graduate College.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • The recipient shall have a minimum 3.0 GPA at the time of application.
  • The awardees academic activity should be primarily related to clinical education or directly facilitate departmental activities related to clinical activities.

Award Amount:  Dependent upon fund accumulation, typically $1,000.
Note: This scholarship will be awarded annually. It was established to honor Dr. Frances Lohr, a former Professor in the Department of Speech Pathology and Audiology.


John “Mick” Hanley Endowed Scholarship


Eligibility Criteria:

  • The scholarship shall be awarded to a full time, second year graduate student(s) enrolled in the Department of Speech Pathology and Audiology.
  • The recipient(s) shall have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 at the time of application.

Award Amount: Dependent upon fund accumulation, typically $1,000.

Note: This scholarship will be awarded annually. It was established to honor Dr. John M. Hanley, a former Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Speech Pathology and Audiology.


The D. Kenneth Wilson Scholarship


Eligibility Criteria:

  • The scholarship shall be awarded to a full time graduate student(s) enrolled in the Department of Speech Pathology and Audiology.
  • The recipient(s) shall have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 at the time of application.

Award Amount:  Dependent upon fund accumulation, typically $1,000.


Robert l. Erickson Award for Excellence in the Study of Voice and Speech Sciences


The purposes of this endowment are: a) first, to provide funds to enhance the education of Speech-Language Pathology graduate students and further their professional preparation by facilitating their participation in professional conferences, conventions, and/or workshops, addressing the study and treatment of voice and speech disorders, and b) second, to support lecturers and speakers who visit Western Michigan University, addressing current topics pertaining to voice or speech disorders.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • The recipient(s) shall have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 at the time of application.
  • Recipients must be students working toward a graduate degree in Speech-Language Pathology.
  • Preference shall be given to students having demonstrated a strong interest in the treatment of voice or speech disorders.
  • Funds are not to be used for tuition, fees, or other items owed the University. It is the intent for the selected award recipient(s) to receive the full amount of the award.

Award Amount:  An award shall not be less that $500 and shall be determined by the awarding department.


Robert and Candis Warner Endowed Scholarship


Eligibility Criteria:

  • The recipient(s) shall have a minimum grade point average of 3.3 at the time of application.
  • Preference shall be given to full-time, first-year, graduate student(s) enrolled in the Department of Speech Pathology and Audiology.

Award Amount: The amount shall be determined by the awarding department based upon the available spendable dollars.


Dean Emerita Marie L. Stevens Scholarship


Eligibility Criteria:

  • The recipient(s) shall have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 at the time of application.
  • The award will be given once per year to a deserving graduate student in the Department of Speech Pathology and Audiology.

Award Amount: The amount shall be $1,000 per year.


Louella Bradley PSI Iota Xi Scholarship

Psi Iota Xi Sorority is a philanthropic organization dedicated to supporting community needs, including the field of speech and hearing. Eta Omicron, the local chapter, has designated this scholarship in honor of Louella Bradley.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • The recipient(s) shall be enrolled in the Speech Pathology and Audiology graduate programs and a permanent resident of the State of Michigan.
  • The award will be given once per year to a deserving student.

Award Amount: Typically $250.

Note: No student shall be discriminated against for these scholarships because of age, color, creed, handicap, marital status, national origin, race, or sex. The amounts of individual endowment scholarship awards are typically determined by the awarding department based upon the endowment’s available spendable dollars.
