Graduate Assistantships

Graduate Assistantships

Graduate Assistant and Doctoral Associate appointments

Graduate Assistantships
The Department of History typically is able to fund four to six new Graduate Assistantships for Master's students each academic year. Those not already enrolled in the History Master's program should apply for admission and funding prior to the January 15 deadline. Students who have been admitted to the Master's program in history without funding, or who wish to apply for an extension of funding beyond two years, should consult the Graduate Handbook for application procedures.

Doctoral Associateships
The Department of History also typically funds two to four new Doctoral Associateships each academic year. Those not already enrolled in the History Ph.D. program should apply for admission and funding prior to the January 15 deadline. Students who have been admitted to the Ph.D. program in history without funding or who wish to apply for an extension of funding beyond four years should consult the current Graduate Handbook for application procedures.
The D.A. ordinarily carries with it a teaching assignment in either Summer I or Summer II, so an application for summer funding is not necessary.

Summer appointments
Each Fall semester current Teaching Assistants will be made aware of positions available for the subsequent Summer I and Summer II terms. The number of positions is dependent on the course schedule and availability of funds. These awards will be made competitively to current T.A.s through an application process. Students not on a continuing G.A. appointment will be considered for summer T.A. or R.A. positions if resources are available. Students should notify the DGS of their desire for a summer position no later than January 15.
