Dr. Carla Koretsky is professor of aqueous geochemistry and biochemistry in the Department of Geosciences and dean of the Lee Honors College at Western Michigan University. She is editor-in-chief for the international journal, Chemical Geology.
Koretsky seeks to integrate field, laboratory and modeling studies of mineral-water-biological interactions near the earth's surface. Recently, her student research team has worked to develop thermodynamic models to quantify metal adsorption on natural and mineral assemblages. Her research group also studies the influence of road salt on urban lake biogeochemistry. Koretsky’s research has been supported by agencies including the National Science Foundation, the Department of Energy, the Office of Naval Research and the American Chemical Society Petroleum Research Fund.
