There are a few things that need to be completed before you check out of your room:
You must schedule an appointment with the Resident Manager to check out of your room. A staff member will inspect your room to assure that all belongings are removed and that the room is clean. Failure to comply may result in an additional fee.
Thoroughly clean your room. Floors are to be swept. Closets, windowsills and window frames are to be cleaned. All personal items are to be removed from your room and the building. During the final inspection of your room, the move-out checklist will be compared with the move-in checklist. The manager will assess damages to the room and the cost of any needed repairs will be charged to your student account. Questions about itemized costs of damages should be directed to the Hall Director (387-2175).
Anything left in the building after you move out will be considered abandoned. Items of value will be held for 30 days and, if not claimed, will either be disposed of or sold at auction. Residents will be charged for any items left behind which require University staff to dispose of or move.
If you have a refrigerator or MicroFridge, it must be thoroughly cleaned out. Unplug the unit and open the doors at least 24 hours before you move out so it will be properly defrosted. You are responsible for defrosting it and cleaning up any remaining water.
Take all trash outside to the dumpster. Do not leave trash or furniture in the kitchens or elsewhere on the floors.
Make sure that the office has your mail forwarding address before you check out. Please inform all family, friends and businesses of your new address to avoid a delay in receiving your mail. Also, update your address information on GoWMU.
Return all keys to the Spindler Hall office. You are considered to be in possession of your room and are responsible for rent and penalty fees until all keys are returned to either Spindler Hall office or to the resident manager.
