- A WMU student
- Over 18 years old
- Sophomore students and above
- Enrolled in at least one credit hour
Roommates
At Western View, students can choose their own roommates.
- One student will need to fill out an online application and include each roommate's name and Bronco NetID.
- Roommates must then go online and accept the request to be a roommate. Any roommate who does not accept the request will not be offered a room.
- If you do not have a roommate preference, you may be assigned to an apartment with other student residents of the same gender.
- Co-ed apartments are assigned by request only.
- Each apartment will be filled to maximum capacity.
- Current occupants will be given priority renewal for 2012-13.
Utilities
- Waste removal, recycling service, basic cable and a WMU parking pass are included in rent payments.
- Each resident is responsible for their portion of additional utilities (water, gas, electric).
- VoIP Telephone
- Phone service is available for the Western View upon request. Only a custom Cisco Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP) telephone will function in the units. If you wish to have phone service in a shared room (living room) or private bedroom, you must purchase a VoIP telephone through Residence Life.
- After you have purchased a WMU VoIP telephone, you need to register the phone and subscribe to telephone service. Visit the Office of Information Technology telephone services web page for additional details.
- Internet
- All apartments are connected to
ResNet, the WMU high-speed computing
network at WMU.
- There is a per semester charge that is billed to each student’s WMU
account. Visit the Office of Information Technology ResNet
website for details.
Policies
Only aquarium fish and assistance animals are permitted as pets in WMU Apartments. Fish tanks over 20 gallons are not permitted. All Western View units are non-smoking. Western View residents are bound by the Community Living Expectations and WMU Student Code.
For additional information regarding policies, please review the Western View Community Living Expectations handbook.
Paying Your Rent
Rent is billed to WMU student accounts, and residents can choose either a monthly or semester billing option. If applicable, financial aid may be applied to WMU student accounts toward apartment charges.
Direct payment methods
Rent is due on the first of each month (unless you have opted to pay by semester). If you have chosen the monthly payment option, the recommended payment methods are to go to Bronco Express in the Bernhard Center or pay online through your "GO WMU" account. At Bronco Express, please tell the cashier you are making your rent payment so your payment can be accurately applied to your Western View rent.
Parking
Western View residents are eligible for a free WMU Apartment parking permit. All motor vehicles, including motorcycles, must be registered and parked in a lot designated by the permit. The permit is free when you register your vehicle at Parking Services and will require your identification, state-issued vehicle registration and apartment contract.
