IME 4870 - Manufacturing Productivity Techniques
Catalog Description:
The application of modern systems for engineering design and the re-engineering of manufacturing and service operations from the initial product design to delivery of the final product. Emphasis will be on manufacturing systems, principles, practices and procedures to enhance productivity, quality, and customer service in a global business environment.
Prerequisites & Corequisites: Prerequisites: Senior standing; ISMJ or ISMN only.
Credits: 3 hours

Course Objectives:
Based of the course description, at the conclusion of the semester the student should be able to:
- Describe the role of manufacturing in a world-class organization
- Identify internal and external customers in the design to manufacturing to delivery cycle
- Understand the role of design and lead-in time production of quality products and services
- Understand the functions and techniques of successful project management
- Understand the role of the supply chain in performance of an organization
- Understand the impact of a global economy
Performance Criteria:
The student should be able to demonstrate proficiency to:
- Define concepts and techniques for manufacturing improvement
- Present and effectively communicate concurrency, reengineering, design quality, quality improvement methods, lead time, project management, product casting, and supply chain
- Develop an awareness of professional, ethical, and social responsibilities in international business environments
