Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering
Admission Requirements
Application for admission is made directly to the Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering Department. Application materials may be obtained from the Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering. International students should contact the Office of International Student Services.
Admission requirements include:
- Official transcripts of all courses taken beyond high school showing the degrees earned.
- Attainment of satisfactory scores on the Graduate Record Examination (GRE).
- Three letters of recommendation.
- Evidence of appropriate background, career goals and objectives, and communication skills demonstrated in an autobiographical statement.
Decisions for admission will be made by the department's doctoral admissions committee. All students must meet the general requirements for a doctoral degree specified in Section IV of the Graduate College Catalog.
To qualify for admission the student must have:
- A bachelor's degree in engineering or related discipline from ABET accredited engineering program with an overall GPA of 3.00, including at least three courses in industrial engineering; or
- A master's degree in engineering from a department offering an ABET, Inc. accredited undergraduate program with an overall GPA of 3.25, including at least five courses in industrial engineering.

Students not meeting these requirements may be conditionally admitted with full admission granted upon completion of additional prerequisites. Deficiencies in the student's prior work as determined by the Ph.D. Adviser at the time of admission should be corrected beginning with the first semester in residence and must be completed before he/she seeks candidacy.
Students may apply to the program at any time. Admission decisions are made by the department's doctoral admissions committee on a monthly basis. To receive full consideration for financial assistance, students should apply by March 1 for the fall semester and October 1 for the Spring semester.
