Orientation: Housing

WMU offers a variety of on-campus housing options. Browse the 2017-2018 Viewbook.

You will need to arrange for housing during your studies at Western Michigan University. Housing options are available on WMU's main campus as well as off-campus through private apartment communities. Students who arrive early are expected to arrange alternative accommodations until their move-in dates.

Living Off-Campus

There are many apartment communities close to campus.  Off-campus apartments can be a good option once you are familiar with life in Kalamazoo.

Arriving Early

International students who arrive before their move-in dates are recommended to stay at the Kalamazoo Comfort Inn where they can access a free shuttle to orientation and a student discount.

Students arriving prior to their move-in date will have to make their own plans to stay in a hotel until then. We recommend that international students stay at the Comfort Inn of Kalamazoo: 739 West Michigan Avenue, Kalamazoo, MI, 49007, USA. Reservations can be made online, by phone (269-384-2800), or by email (comfortinn739@yahoo.com). When making your reservation, inform the Comfort Inn staff that you are a new Western Michigan University international student to receive a discount.

WMU provides a daily shuttle service to campus from the Comfort Inn hotel during orientation. It picks up students at the hotel door between 7:30-8:30 a.m.

Students with a Residence Hall Contract

There is an early move-in date for new international students coming to orientation. Please check the date in the WMU Residence Life move-in schedule.  Students moving in on that date will be billed an additional cost for the nights between the move-in date and the start of their housing contract. Contact Residence Life on specific rates at WMU-housing@wmich.edu. Students planning to check into the residence hall early must bring bedding (twin extra-long size) and bath towels.

Students arriving prior to the designated residence hall early move-in date will have to make their own plans to stay in a hotel until that day.

WMU's Residence Life staff may be reached during regular business hours at (269) 387-4735 or via email at WMU-housing@wmich.edu.
