GoWMU/Password Security

In response to phishing attacks, and to provide a more secure login environment, information technology is rolling out a new multi-layered security front end for GoWMU and sign-on applications.

In addition to being asked for your Bronco NetID and password, login will now be multi-screened and will include a security image and a security word which you will have been asked to select. You will also be asked to choose a new standardized challenge phrase to use in case you have forgotten your password and need to set a new one.

The first time you log in after the new security process goes into effect, you will see a screen informing you that you have not yet selected your security image and word and you will be asked to select them. You will then be presented with a selection of images and words to choose from. If you do not like any shown, you may request to see more. After you have selected both an image and a word, you will be shown your image and your word as a second step in the login process. If you see another word and another image, and not those you selected, you should contact the Help Desk and not continue your login attempt as that indicates your login may be compromised.

The first time you change your password after this new process goes into effect, you will be asked to set or reset your challenge phrase. Taking that option will show you a set of questions. You will chose one and then provide the answer in the provided box. Be sure you remember exactly how you answered the question. Capitalization matters. Now if you forget your password at any time, you can set a new one by correctly answering your challenge phrase.

Challenge phrases, security words, security images and passwords may be changed at any time by clicking the Change Password link on the GoWMU login page. Student passwords expire once every twelve months while faculty and staff passwords expire once every six months. Reminders will be emailed asking you to visit the GoWMU login page to set a new password prior to your password expiration date.
