Distributed Computing Services

The Office of Information Technology provides provides a variety of technical services in support of distributed and workgroup computing for academic and administrative units throughout campus.

Client support

Primary client support for distributed computing is provided at the unit level by colleges and departments. Information technology technical staff may* provide additional levels of expertise and serve as backups to the departmental administrators. *subject to billing at a rate of $75 per hour.


The LAN managers’ group is comprised of departmental computing administrators from throughout the WMU community that meets to exchange ideas and plan for university-wide distributed computing initiatives. Information technology hosts the LAN Managers’ group monthly.

Media disposal

For small quantity (one or two drives) disposal needs, contact production/operations at (269) 387-6080. For larger quantities, media disposal companies such as Ship'N'Shred are suggested.

Microsoft Active Directory

Microsoft Active Directory is supported by OIT in the form of a centralized, unified directory, providing both authentication and authorization to Microsoft Windows-based services. The campus-wide active directory domain is commonly known as WADE. User IDs within WADE are the Bronco NetIDs issued to all WMU students, faculty and staff.
