K-12 School Principal Leadership Concentration, 18 month option

The 18-month option in K-12 school principal leadership concentration in the Department of Educational Leadership, Research and Technology at Western Michigan University is a 30-credit-hour program and is available for three of four available concentrations.

The concentration offers full alignment with a K-12 education specialist degree, which requires 30 additional credits beyond the new 30 credit hour Master of Arts in educational leadership degree.

Courses

To complete the principal leadership concentration in 18 months, students will begin in either a fall or spring semester and take two courses per semester, plus a one credit education leadership master's seminar their first semester, as well as take four classes during the summer, one during summer I session and three during summer II session.

Students who cannot take two classes per semester within the principal leadership concentration are able to start at any time and take whatever number of courses they can each semester, taking longer to graduate. These students, as well as those within the other master's concentrations, can use the educational leadership's master's degree multi-year course offering plan above to develop a timeline for their program of studies.

Certification

The concentration is in full alignment with the state voluntary K-12 administrator certification and basic principal endorsement requirements.
