Ward Morgan Photography Collection

Images from a commercial photographer depicting individuals and the social, institutional, and business activities of the region.

The Ward Morgan Collection are photographs depicting life and culture in a Midwestern community through the mid-twentieth century. The 26,000 Morgan images include streetscapes, images of commerce, as well as studio views of products and people. See a selection of the photography collection.

Accessibility and comprehensive information are key parts of the Ward Morgan photographs that include descriptive metadata, library cataloging information, digitization specs., and high resolution images. As a searchable website it also includes many browseable categories: education, advertising, business products, events, industrial products, industrial scenes, insurance – accidents, people daily life, people working, religious, residential scenes, societies – service clubs, street scenes – stations. Digitization of hundreds of photographs of the Kalamazoo region are part of this Michigan history online image database, ‘The Making of Modern Michigan’ project.
