Liturgy O.C.S.O Collection Details

The digital Liturgy Journals files were created from the original published issues, many of which are in bound volumes now. The originals were acquired from several locations, so this is the most complete set available. Eighty-eight issues are included along with two appendices.

The items are presented as separate issues in PDF files. They are full-text searchable within each PDF file. Scanned on a flatbed book scanner at 300 ppi, these files are larger and may take extra time to download. Optical character recognition in Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro has recognized most of the text. Some older typewriter fonts with hand-drawn accent marks are less accurate. Text close to the binding and text on colored paper was also challenging to capture. Please keep this in mind while searching.

The ContentDM image database initially opens the PDF with the metadata in a split page. There is an option to open the PDF in a new window. In both, the user has full Acrobat functionality for zoom, navigation, and using the ‘Find’ window for searching within the file. In the ‘metadata’ or PDF description, the blue text is ‘hot linked’ for a quick search within this collection – especially helpful in the Subject categories.

The descriptive information, called metadata, is qualified Dublin Core following the CDP Metadata Working Group Dublin Core Metadata Best Practices, version 2.1.1. The collection has been exposed for harvesting using the Open Archives Initiative Protocol for Metadata Harvesting (OAI-PMH) and made available in WorldCat.org via the OCLC WorldCat Digital Collection Gateway.

PDF/A files are archived at Western Michigan University Libraries, Digitization Center.
