WestCat is the online catalog of the University Libraries. It includes the materials in Waldo Library, the Education Library, the Music and Dance Library, and the Archives and Regional History Collections. To search for children's books in WestCat, you first need to limit your search to the location "WMU All Children's Books" by completing the following steps:

  1. On the opening WestCat screen, click on the Advanced Search option.
  2. On the lower right hand side of the screen, click on the blue More Limits button.
  3. Under the box labeled Location, use the pull-down menu to select the location titled WMU All Children's Books.
  4. Now click on the Select Limits, Then Click Here button at the top of the screen.

Note: WestCat will retain your search limit until you remove it.

Once the limits are in place, use the Advanced Search mode to type in the topics of the children's books you wish to find. For example, to find children's books dealing with grandfathers, just type the word grandfathers in the first search box. You may also do more complicated Advanced Keyword searches using several keywords. For example, if you wished to find children's poetry books about nature, you would enter poetry in the first search box, and then nature in the second search box. Using the Advanced Search mode, the system will automatically combine the two search terms together. You can access WestCat at any of the terminals in the libraries, or through the Web at the URL: http://www.library.wmich.edu
