If you are looking for a whole book of short stories by a specific author, look under his or her name as an author search in the library catalog. Some short story writers do not publish books, however, or a specific story you want may never have been published in a book exclusively devoted to stories by that author. If you are looking for specific stories published separately either in anthologies or in periodicals you will need to consult sources like the following:
