Bureau of Transportation Statistics

This site, by the U.S. Department of Transportation, contains a wealth of statistical data on all aspects of travel within, and to and from, the United States. It is organized by Mode (aviation, maritime, highway, rail, etc.) and by Subject (safety, freight transport, passenger travel, etc.). If you are interested in getting a snapshot of all kinds of travel in the U.S., this is the site for you!

FHWA State Highway Briefing Sheets

Provided by the Federal Highway Administration (U.S. Department of Transportation), these brief statistical reports (organized by state) give a quick overview of the state and national highway system. Much of the information comes from the 2000 U.S. Census.

Information provided includes the number of licensed drivers, number of motor vehicles, state transportation revenues and expenditures, and road/highway mileage.
