Locating Psychology Sites Online
To locate psychology sites online, use any search engine and enter the specific terms or phrase, e.g., "clinical psychology," on the search line. Adding a term such as "resources" or "guide" may focus your search. You may also search for Web sites on WorldCat available on the Libraries' home page under "W" in the Databases A-Z listing.
Comprehensive catalog of books and other materials in libraries around the world. Contains millions of records in hundreds of languages. Non-book materials include (among other publication formats) the titles of journals and magazines, manuscripts, maps, electronic resources, websites, computer programs, music scores, films, slides, sound recordings, conference proceedings, and videotapes. Items located through WorldCat must be requested through Interlibrary Loan unless they are also listed in the WMU Libraries catalog.

ipl2: Information You Can Trust
In 2010 the collections of the Internet Public Library (IPL) and the Librarians' Internet Index (LII) were merged. Ask an ipl2 Librarian servic will answer reference questions.
Librarian's Comment: A guide to Web information on psychological subjects is found in the Librarians' Index to the Internet that can be accessed from the Libraries' catalog by title or through this direct link. "The lii.org began in 1990 as reference librarian Carole Leita's Gopher bookmark file" ... and "in late 1996, Carole began working with Roy Tennant at the Digital Library SunSITE to add a search engine to lii.org (SWISH-Enhanced), add Library of Congress Subject Headings, and develop a virtual workspace to facilitate team-based record creation and maintenance." Has directory and search box for ease of search across multiple areas.
Selected Psychology Web Sites
The following are selected examples of Web sites related to psychology.
An APA search tool whose ultimate goal is to provide ready access to the majority of psychological Web sites. Can use the PsychCrawler Sites [to search], can Submit a URL [for review and listing] or can use the PsychCrawler User's Guide. Can search words or concepts as well as refine by suggesting related words, alternate spellings or perusing a display dictionary. Includes list of sites searched. The APA search list also include "Best Search," a keyword-indexed search of the APA site; "Search APA Journals Area;" and "Search APA Book Area." If all else fails, there is an e-mail address for search advice.
A discussion and chat site for all mental health and applied behavioral professionals, i.e., a gathering place. Can locate organizations, interest groups, journal links and information through discussion groups on topics such as Outcome Assessment. Does not, as a standard rule, provide mental health advice.
A collection of articles, Web sites, and research tools, compiled by a clinical psychologist Michael Fenichel that is divided between general topics (e.g., Web of Addiction) listed on the left side of the screen under a Psychology Reference Guide, and more specific subjects found in a Quick Reference Guide. There is also a "Quick Search" feature.

Online since 1995, this "premier mental health," award winning site" relates to the entire community of psychology professionals and serves as a guide to its resources. All types of disorders (e.g., anxiety, addictions, obsessive-compulsive, sleep), treatments, journals, related disciplines, services, chat groups, and self-help guides are located here. The MHN portal page has the latest news plus sections on Issue/Disorder Centers; Information Centers, Resources, and Professional Services. There is also a search engine ("word beginning") on the main screen.
A resource site sponsored by Northern Virginia Community College that lists many aspects of communication as a process, relationships, listening and perception,and verbal and nonverbal messages. Psych Central: Mental Health & Psychology Resources Online
Well known psychology and computer expert John Grohol is the compiler of this annotated and rated directory of every type of mental health resource on the Internet. There is a search box (Find) as well as a directory of basic subjects, e.g., Abuse, Disorders, Psychotherapy, etc.
Almost everything one might expect to find in something called Psych Web: impressive array of information on books, products, services, journals, departments, self-help resources, and educational tips. Russell A. Dewey is the compiler of this source of information on scholarly as well as popular information.
Psychology WWW Virtual Library
Excellent source produced through the University of Florida and edited by Gene R. Thursby, Ph.D. Part of the World Wide Web Virtual Library. Attempts to track psychology online information; inspects and evaluates the sites noted and utilizes user input. Main screen has Table of Contents running from academic departments through books, guides, history, journals, online libraries, societies, etc. Connects to other major elements of the WWW Virtual Library such as Sociology and Social Sciences.
School Psychology Resources Online
Over 1000 sites link to this source for psychologists, parents and educators on varied topics, e.g., learning disabilities, behavioral assessment, special education, mental health, parenting, and a host more. Main page has three sections: Features, which includes a search index, an alphabetical list of Specific Conditions, Disorders, Disabilities (e.g. Mood Disorders); and Other Information such as the ERIC Clearinghouses to Journals and "E-zines" to ListServs to Suicide to Violence & Terrorism.
