South African Literature Collection
The South African Literature Collection at Western Michigan University was donated by Edward Callan (WMU Distinguished Professor Emeritus, 1995). It includes a well-rounded variety of materials in the subjects of political science, literature, and history of South Africa.
Edward Callan was a bibliographer of Alan Paton, the South African author of novels including Cry the Beloved Country and Apartheid and the Archbishop . Some of the authors in this collection include Bishop Desmond Tutu, Nelson and Winnie Mandela, Nadine Gordimer, Alan Paton, and Donald Woods.
The collection contains a nearly complete run of the Liberal party magazine: Reality (1969-1992), as well as letters and photographs of Nadine Gordimer and Alan Paton.
