Placement Exam

A proctored test is offered for all incoming freshmen and for those who wish to test out of the proficiency 3 requirement. Questions or to schedule exam: Contact Steve Culver, (269) 387-4517. Students are placed into courses using their ACT or SAT scores:

Math Scores on ACT or SAT MATH or STAT courses student is eligible to take. (Courses listed in Bold print fulfill WMU's math proficiency).
ACT 27+ or SAT 610+ MATH 1220 or 2000, 1500, 1180, 1160, 1140, 1110, 1100, 1090; STAT 1600
ACT 24-26 or SAT 560-609 MATH 1180, 2000, 1500, 1160, 1140, 1110, 1100, 1090; STAT 1600
ACT 19-23 or SAT 460-559 MATH 1500, 1160, 1140, 1110, 1100, 1090; STAT 1600
ACT 16-18 or SAT 380- 459 MATH 1100, 1090
ACT 15 or SAT 379 or less MATH 1090


Credit by Exam

It is possible to receive credit in several of the freshman or sophomore level mathematics courses by performing sufficiently well on an exam (without actually taking the course). The exam is 2 to 3 hours in length and is equivalent to a final examination over the course. There is a fee charged for these exams.
