A proctored test is offered for all incoming freshmen and for those who wish to test out of the proficiency 3 requirement. Questions or to schedule exam: Contact Steve Culver, (269) 387-4517. Students are placed into courses using their ACT or SAT scores:

| ACT 19-23 or SAT 460-559 | MATH 1500, 1160, 1140, 1110, 1100, 1090; STAT 1600 |
| ACT 16-18 or SAT 380- 459 | MATH 1100, 1090 |
| ACT 15 or SAT 379 or less | MATH 1090 |
It is possible to receive credit in several of the freshman or sophomore level mathematics courses by performing sufficiently well on an exam (without actually taking the course). The exam is 2 to 3 hours in length and is equivalent to a final examination over the course. There is a fee charged for these exams.
